Failing is Fantastic!

Do you ever have a pattern that you are VERY excited for, and can't wait to get started? Then you complete the project and it is absolutely...TERRIBLE?

It

is

okay.

I recently had an excellent idea - I wanted to make a small basket to hold my crochet hooks like pens and pencils. I found the perfect free pattern...or so I thought. I began, struggling a little at first with the way the pattern was written. But I prevailed, watching YouTube videos as I went. I got to the final product, tried to put my crochet hooks in, and...it just flopped. Literally. Flopped.

I used fairly stiff, inexpensive cotton yarn that had a nice variegated coloring to it. It has a nice, unique design. It appears to be something that could be perfect for holding crochet hooks. But guys...it just flopped.

Failing happens. Sometimes it's our fault, sometimes it's the designer's fault. In my case, it was a combination of how the pattern was written, and my complete inability to realize that the yarn I chose was NOT stiff enough.

We have a few choices when we fail. We could frog the entire project, yelling a few choice words as we do so, OR we could embrace the failure and place the project somewhere to be reminded of the fact that failing is fantastic.

I have my object of failure sitting on my end table where I am always able to see it. Partly because I don't know what else to do with it, and partly because I enjoy just looking at it. I encourage you to fail. I encourage you to get frustrated, frog some, and simply prevail. Fail. Fail. Fail.

Until next time,
